Jean Caceres-Gonzalez is a Cuban American born and raised in Tarrytown, New York. She is the daughter of Cuban parents Jose and
Bertha Caceres, wife to Mario, a Metro Dade Firefighter and mother to Jordan, Julianne and James. As Executive Director of His House, Jean is affectionately
known to the hundreds of children who have passed throughout the doors as "Mommy Jean".
After graduating from Oral Roberts University with a degree in Spanish with minors in Business Administration and Commercial Art, Jean began a
career at a foreign language publishing company. During summer breaks from the university, she traveled to the Amazon in Brazil and Mexico to do
mission work. Although her career was flourishing and she found the foreign mission work exciting, Jean dreamt of opening a home for needy children.
In June of 1989, she left her position at Life Publications International to establish His House Children's Home, a non profit crisis residential shelter
for abused, neglected and drug exposed children.
In those early years, on her own, Jean, a single woman with a heart for Miami's hurting little ones cared for the first few children placed with
her. Children were placed in her custody often by their biological parents or through the courts as a non-relative. Years later, she would meet her
new husband Mario and together they became the first set of His House Children's Home house parents... quite a demanding role for a couple of newly
weds! While juggling the many administrative tasks involved in managing the agency, Jean also cooked, changed diapers, cleaned and was "Mommy Jean"
to the first twelve children to live at the shelter.
Today, Jean Caceres-Gonzalez oversees a growing non-profit agency. His House has 98 staff members and presently cares for 260 children. Jean has
been featured in the media as a community servant and won the "Good Neighbor" award from Channel 4 "Neighbors for Neighbors", and Primer Impacto.
